OUT OF THE BOX
As part of our packaging design course taught at NABA, we were asked to design a new packaging for the welcome kit given out by the college to their students at the start of the academic year. The design had to reflect the essence of either NABA or Milan, the city that we were studying in.
The packaging also had to have a second life, and not just be another wasteful packaging that is thrown away after being received.
Life at NABA and Milano, Italy

I worked on this project with another student studying my course named Kopal Bhargava. We wanted our packaging design to be clean, geometric and minimalist- fitting in with the brand aesthetic of NABA. But, we also wanted to incorporate Milan’s beautiful architecture and the differences in the architectural styles in the city areas.
We also wanted to make sure that the second life of our product was something that would be used by the students regularly. It was decided that the second life of the packaging would hence be a storage organiser with a detachable lid.

The final design for our Out of the Box Packaging was inspired by the unusual shape and geometric sleekness of the logo of NABA [Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti]. When opened, the contents given by the college as part of the welcome kit are readily visible, packed in a compact and space-saving way. Below those items, the students would find partitions that could be easily assembled to turn the welcome kit into a storage container. The lid of the box, beind detachable, can be removed or kept as needed.
The whole structure was made using zero glue, just using cutting and folding techniques, which made this design extremely eco-friendly and sustainable.
Materials used: microwave cardboard, 300 GSM paperboard.
